PICASSO FANTASIES

Manuel Terán and the rise of his work on the international art scene

The Chilean artist Manuel Terán presents his latest exhibition, Fantasías de Picasso (Picasso Fantasies), at Galería Pilares: a show that underlines the solidity of his career and his growing presence on the art market. Terán, known for his ability to reinterpret great artistic legacies with a fresh, contemporary eye, introduces in this series an ironic and renewing reflection with the figure of Picasso as its protagonist.

The exhibition will also include a selection of works from his series Tributo a Fontana (Tribute to Fontana), continuing his recent show at the Ateneo de Madrid and reaffirming his exploration of appropriation and dialogue with the great masters of modern art. This combination of series shows the artist’s versatility and his ability to generate new readings of the pictorial past from a personal and current perspective.

In the words of the critic Fernando Castro Flórez: “In his painting, Terán builds a multidimensional space where styles and codes intertwine to create images that challenge the tradition of authorship, imbuing them with a joyful irony that strengthens his vocation as a painter.”

With Fantasías de Picasso, the artist takes a further step in his international expansion, consolidating his profile in a cultural context that values the fusion of the classical and the modern. The series will travel to Tokyo in May 2025 and then to Helsingborg, confirming the growing interest in his work in global markets.
