Jorge Castillo

Jorge Castillo Casalderrey, born in Pontevedra in 1933, is a Galician painter. His work hangs in museums around the world, from the United States to Jerusalem, and Santiago de Compostela is to host a permanent museum devoted to him. In the sixties Castillo’s reputation was consolidated, with exhibitions in leading galleries worldwide, and the most important critics wrote about his work. He draws close to surrealism, the source of many of his creations, although at times he is also near to a very personal kind of hyperrealism. In 1992 he received the Castelao Medal.
