MANUEL TERÁN
Santiago de Chile, 1974
Manuel Terán is a Chilean artist based in Spain whose career is characterised by the exploration of different languages and a particular ability to connect the painting tradition with contemporary visual culture. A Fine Arts graduate of the University of Chile, from his earliest years he has worked in the visual arts, painting and new technologies applied to art.
His painting has evolved through several series, most notably Retrato Capital, a project begun in 2005 and devoted to urban spaces. Terán turns streets, buildings and corners of cities such as Santiago de Chile, Madrid, León, Pamplona and Paris into silent, carefully constructed settings, where realism is combined with an enigmatic atmosphere and a deeply personal view of the contemporary city.
