The catalogue you hold in your hands contains a large part of the Spanish pictorial aesthetic of the last fifty years. ART-COLLECTION MADRID is the first contemporary art fair to represent creators rather than gallery owners. Collectors will find everything here, from representative works by our most international painters to proposals from the new generations, not forgetting, of course, those who straddle the so-called classical avant-gardes and current trends. From Informalism and abstraction to Pop Art, from painting to sculpture, by way of photography and printmaking, the aim of this new fair is to encourage the collecting of mainly Spanish art —often thoroughly international—, to promote new creators and, of course, to make works more accessible to art lovers and to those who wish to take up such a fascinating pastime.
Spain is known throughout the world for the outstanding quality of its painters and museums, but also of its fairs and its tireless cultural activity. Private initiative is crucial in this field —in fact it always has been—, for if a novel can only be the fruit of its author’s work in solitude, the same is true of a painting. That is why proposals that promote knowledge of these creators and increase exhibition opportunities and collecting are always welcome, as is the support of institutions which, in the shared idea of working for the common good, lend their presence and warmth to those individual solitudes.
True to our commitment to bringing artists to the general public —some perhaps unknown, but in need of being “discovered”, admired and valued— and true to our vocation of promoting the visual arts, we have wished to bring together, in the heart of Madrid, beside the Neptune fountain, in a palace that has taken its name, a representative part of these artists’ work, in the hope that it will also serve to bring them together and, of course, to give the people of Madrid and the many visitors to the city the opportunity to discover new talents, new proposals and new aesthetics with which, in the words of Manolo Valdés, they can carry off a beautiful booty.
